Bringing the classic back and giving it our own unique taste with locally grown grain and 100% Rye.
Let's go back to the birth of the Rye whiskey. It started back when settlers first came to America. Liquor, of course, was already a booming business and whiskey itself was incredibly popular. Rye whiskey first came into existence in Pennsylvania and Maryland, and it actually began accidentally. Barley did not grow as well as they thought in the New American climate, but Rye grew exceptionally well. When they realized they created this whole new American whiskey, the industry exploded. The popularity grew so exponentially that even George Washington distilled his own version of Rye Whiskey at his home in Mount Vernon. Jump to the 1930's, unfortunately, Rye Whiskey disappeared during the Great Depression and Prohibition Era. Rye was one of the most expensive grain to produce so, naturally, it fell to the wayside.
It wasn't until a little over a decade ago when Rye Whiskey had a comeback. Mixologists were beginning to bring back classic and old fashioned cocktails that included Rye Whiskey as a main character and, in turn, created a higher demand for the product. In fact, in 2009, there was a 500% increase in demand for Rye Whiskey and it's been one of the most popular whiskeys ever since.
We have been working on our version for a while and we're so excited that it's finally ready for the public! Our Rye Whiskey is made from 100% rye grain grown from local farmers around Whatcom and Skagit Valley. It has a great peppery taste with a nice, dry finish. We get our beautiful color from new charred American Oak barrels that helps smooth out the flavors gradually over time. Our goal is to use only the best ingredients to make premium spirits for you to enjoy straight or mixed in a tasty cocktail!
